Cosmic intelligence, networks and consciousness
Nature often produces networks at radically different scales. Trees branch. Rivers divide. Fungal systems spread through environments. Neurons connect. Animal societies coordinate. Galaxies form clusters and filaments across the Universe.
The resemblance can be visually striking. Visual resemblance alone is not evidence of a shared mechanism.
CosmosIntelligence is interested in a deeper question:
Do natural systems at very different scales sometimes organize according to similar mathematical principles?

The brain and the cosmic web
Published research by Franco Vazza and Alberto Feletti has quantitatively compared properties of neuronal networks and the cosmic web. Their work reported similarities in selected structural and network measures while emphasizing enormous differences in physical scale and underlying processes.

This research does not show that the Universe is a brain. It does not prove that the Universe is conscious. It gives us a serious starting point for measurable questions.

What we can compare
Useful measurements may include network topology, clustering, connectivity, centrality, hierarchy, motifs, energy distribution, information density, entropy, compression, temporal behavior and patterns of self organization.
If similarities disappear under rigorous testing, that result is useful. If similarities persist, the next step is to ask what physical or mathematical explanation could account for them.

What do we mean by communication?
Communication does not always mean language or intention. A star communicates information about its temperature and composition through radiation. An atmosphere communicates chemical information through spectroscopy. A pulsar reveals its rotation through repeated pulses. Gravitational waves carry information about violent events.
These systems are not necessarily trying to send messages. Physical processes produce information that can be measured.
One goal of CosmosIntelligence is to become better at listening.

Consciousness as a research question
Consciousness remains one of the most difficult questions in science and philosophy. Humans experience it directly. Research examines consciousness, sentience, cognition, communication and learning across many animals and other biological systems.
Questions involving insects, plants, collective systems and artificial intelligence remain active areas of study and debate.
CosmosIntelligence does not begin with the conclusion that planets, stars, galaxies or the Universe are conscious.
We begin with the question.
Possible hypotheses range from consciousness requiring a biological nervous system, to it emerging from particular forms of information processing, to consciousness depending on mechanisms science has not yet identified. Large systems may process information without possessing anything that should be called consciousness.

Curiosity with discipline
Extraordinary ideas must face ordinary scientific discipline. Instrument effects, known astrophysics and statistical coincidence must be tested. Important findings should be independently reproduced. Models should make predictions where possible. Alternative explanations should be actively sought.
Curiosity determines what we are willing to investigate. Evidence determines what we are willing to claim.
