Product direction: the capabilities and example conversations below describe planned Space Buddy work, not a released application.
VR represents the most immersive expression of Space Buddy. Instead of viewing the cosmos through a window on a screen, the user can feel present inside a spatial environment.

One architecture, multiple surfaces
The desktop and browser product should provide the conceptual foundation for VR. The goal is not to build a disconnected second application. The same object model, sources, guided experiences and AI companion should work across devices when possible.

Spatial exploration
Users can look around naturally, inspect 3D celestial objects, move around spacecraft, view planets from orbit and travel between supported locations.

Guided tours
Space Buddy can narrate spatial tours of spacecraft, stations, rovers, planets and mission environments. The assistant can point out instruments or features and explain what they do while the user moves around them.

NASA 3D resources
NASA maintains a public 3D Resources hub containing models from many missions. These assets can help Space Buddy use scientifically grounded geometry rather than inventing generic representations.

Existing NASA XR experiences
NASA and affiliated science programs also provide experiences such as Spacecraft AR, ClipperAR, First Woman, Reach Across the Stars and Walking Among the Stars. Some can be launched as external experiences while native Space Buddy XR is developed around documented assets and interfaces.

Accessibility
VR and AR should never be the only route to core educational information. Important content must remain available through desktop, mobile, text, audio and accessible visual alternatives.
