The Cosmic Graph

The Cosmic Graph is the knowledge and relationship layer of CosmosIntelligence. It is designed to connect what the Universe contains with what humanity has observed, measured and learned about it.

Potential node types include stars, planets, exoplanets, galaxies, clusters, filaments, black holes, spacecraft, instruments, observations, images, spectra, light curves, radio signals, events, papers, hypotheses, citizen science tasks and candidate anomalies.

Potential relationships include orbits, belongs to, observed by, detected in, derived from, located near, temporally follows, spectrally resembles, discussed in, confirmed by, contradicted by and requires review.

Astronomy data is distributed across many archives and formats. A graph can help an AI system move from a question about an object to the relevant observations, papers, instruments and related phenomena.

For example, a user asking about an exoplanet could move from the planet to its host star, discovery method, transit observations, atmospheric measurements, papers, current citizen science opportunities and future telescope visibility.

Graph models can study clustering, centrality, motifs, paths, hierarchy and relationships that may be difficult to detect in isolated tables.

The same framework can support research into the cosmic web, cross scale network comparisons, anomaly context and the provenance chain behind scientific claims.

Every important relationship should retain where it came from. A claim derived from a NASA archive should point back to that archive. A calculated value should identify the inputs and method. An interpretation should be distinguishable from a direct measurement.

This makes the graph useful not only for discovery but also for trust.
