Space Buddy needs more than orbital views. Users should be able to move from a planet to its actual terrain, imagery, measurements and 3D mission hardware.

NASA and JPL Solar System Treks provide interactive planetary surface exploration for selected worlds. They combine imagery, terrain and map layers and are a strong foundation for experiences such as Mars, the Moon and other planetary bodies.

Where documented map services are available, Space Buddy can use selected layers inside a native map interface while retaining links to the official Trek experience.

A user says:

“Take me to Olympus Mons.”

Space Buddy opens a Mars surface view.

“How tall is it compared with Everest?”

The assistant explains the comparison and cites the measurement source.

“Show me the surrounding terrain.”

The map layer changes.

NASA's 3D Resources hub contains downloadable models related to missions, spacecraft, equipment, planets and other science subjects.

AR and WebXR

A user could ask to place a rover or spacecraft on a table, expand it to life size or inspect a specific instrument. Native XR should use documented assets and maintain source information.

Existing NASA experiences such as Spacecraft AR and ClipperAR can provide immediate launchable experiences while native Space Buddy XR matures.
